5 Cool zombie games you need to play right now

Whether you need to shake off some residual anger or are genuinely into zombie-slaying, we’ve got just the thing. You might have become fond of all the zeds, biters and creepers out there - but that’s not stopping you from going into full slay-mode! That’s why we’ve rounded up some of the best addicting games available. Happy gaming!

1. Dead Nation: PS3, PS4

Get ready to fight your way through different levels, buying an upgrade when you’ve earned enough money. You’re not alone, of course. Instead, you’re joined by different types of zombies: slow movers, terrible screamers, acid spitters and a few other darlings. If you like your moody game environments, you’ll love this. The game is pretty challenging and requires some serious strategy and skill: you’ll need to make your way through all kinds of environmental obstacles. You can deal with the zombies in various different ways. Which path will you take?

2. Dead Rising: Xbox 360

Again, not the most cheerful name for a game, but it makes up for it by being over the top gory and awesome. This game was released almost 10 years ago - and it took good zombie games to a whole new level. In the game, you’re all by yourself in an open world, which means you can’t rely on anyone else. At the beginning, you’re trapped in a shopping centre, fighting off all the zombies as Frank West. As you make your way through the mall, you can use anything as a weapon, while you move up different levels and learn new tricks. Expect to use some unexpected things - such as toy tennis ball shooters or cash registers - as weapons. If you’re a fan, you’ve got two sequels (Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 3) waiting for you.

3. Call of Duty: World at War: PC, PS2, PS3, Wii, DS, Xbox 360

When you start mixing cool zombie shooting games with real life events, things can get weird really fast. Especially when you throw Nazi Zombies into the mix. But this hugely popular game manages to keep it together. It puts 1 to 4 players against hordes of zombies, with the sole task of staying alive. Each new wave is more difficult, as the amount of zombies keeps increasing. This is zombie apocalypse preparation at its best.

4. Resident Evil: PC, PlayStation, Sega Saturn, Nintendo DS

One of the best zombie games of all-time, this game inspired multiple sequels. In the original, you’re trapped in a huge mansion filled with - you guessed it - zombies. Expect to see them appearing seemingly out of nowhere, gnawing at corpses. The chilling glare they send your way is enough to give you nightmares. This game is not like most other zombie games. If you’re looking for a game that makes you really tense and anxious while playing, this is it.

5.Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare: PS3, Xbox 360

All the Red Dead Redemption fans who also happen to love zombie-killing action: this one’s for you! The original game didn’t have zombies - and boy, have they improved things. In this new version (still set in the old west), you must hunt different zombie-monsters, as well as unicorns and other mythical creatures. Expect many different types of zombies in this game: fat ones, extremely fast ones and poisonous ones.
